The Indonesian National Ship Else Association (INSA) is optimistic that the downstream business carried out in Indonesia will be conducive to the country's shipping industry.
INSA Chairman Carmelita Hartoto explained that so far, Indonesia's export shipping activities still use a large number of foreign ships. Therefore, for the downstream, through the downstream plan, the volume of ship transport in the form of raw materials used to use bulk ships and rebar shipments to the smelting plant may increase, thereby increasing the use of domestic freight from domestic ships.
Carmelita said that every time the challenge contains opportunities, the same is true of other raw ore exports. Although this will affect export ships, it will directly open opportunities for domestic transportation in the future.
In fact, many domestic shipping companies in Indonesia have begun to actively transport nickels, and have recently been hotly related to the downstream projects of electric vehicle batteries.
For example, the PT Samudra Indonesia TBK (SMDR) continuously increases the number of bulk cargo fleets to meet the needs of nickel to the smelter. The main director of SMDR, Bani Maulana Mulia, explained that his party has already ordered some new ships to support the development of the company, namely container, tanker and bulk cargo ship.
Bani acknowledged that the procurement of bulk ships is still in progress. The reason for buying bulk cargo ships is to support the needs of mineral mining customers in order to supply their products to the smelter.
At present, customers are required to increase the capacity of bulk carrons. Most of them are to support Indonesian smelter activities. One of them is nickel. We are also a company that provides customers who have smelting factories in other minerals in other minerals.
In addition to Samudera Indonesia, another shipping company PT Trans Power Marine TBK (TPMA) has been transporting nickel ore through its subsidiary PT Transik Perkasa (TLP) since last year to achieve diversification of goods. This year, his party will increase investment in TLP as an increase in the form of the fleet.
Ronny Kurniawan, the main director of Trans Power Marine, said that this year TPMA distributed $ 40 million in capital expenditure at the purpose of buying 5 ships for the company and buying 20 ships Percasa for TRANS LOGISTIK. loan. All new ships of TPMA will be used for coal transportation. On the other hand, the ship of Trans Logistik Perkasa will be used to transport nickel products. "We have only 30%of our subsidiaries," Ronny added.
PT TEMAS TBK (TMAS) is studying the diversification of transportation products. Harry Haryanto, director of PT TEMAS shipping, said that Temas currently has a subsidiary named PT Temas Bulker and manages three heavy -duty goods or foreign heavy -duty cargo ships.
Through Temas Bulker, his political party does not rule out the possibility of developing business through transportation of dry bulk goods or bulk ships.
Harry said he did not rule out the possibility of Temas Bulker transported coal, nickel or other commodities. He said that this prospect is consistent with the number of smelters built in Indonesia.
